This is a one of a pair of kittens a friend of mine adopted. She's a very calm little cat and easy to both sketch and photograph.
How did he get his name? I don't know, why don't you askim? No, seriously, this is the other half of the pair of kittens my friend adopted. This one got all the energy. Notice his naturally bobbed tail and the detail in the fur especially around the ears and back.
This is my most popular painting so far. Tranquil and somehow evocative. Two trees in the middle of a forest yet somehow isolated. For me it recalls mornings by the lake with a mug of coffee in my hand looking out at this scene. It doesn't get any better.
One of those super calm mornings with hardly a breath of wind. The sky is mirrored in the lake and you could spend hours just staring at the trees.
This is the very first watercolour I ever did. One of the reasons I decided to continue with my art was because of the compliments I received for this painting.
Fall along the Grand river in Cambridge Ontario. Nothing but turn of the century buildings along the river here. There's an old world charm that just oozes out of the landscape here.
This was an interesting portrait that started off as a photograph. Jennifer was sporting sunglasses perched on her head and the background was little cluttered. Her hair was the harded part to get right. Her mother loves this picture and it's currently hanging in her office.
This is one of my own cats. The combination of her fur and the texture of the blanket make this picture look almost too cuddly. Her personality really shines through.
This one is almost pure fantasy as far as paintings go. As far as I know they have never been to Victoria park together. The origianl painting is quite a wide format and makes an unusual print.
A study of my wife taken while we were on a walk one afternoon. Once again the photo was greatly simplified and then painted to emphasize the subject.
One of my most abstract paintings done entirely in acrylics. I'm very pleased with the way the horse turned out.
Let me introduce you to Mini the raccoon. She lives somewhere in the vicinity on Centenial Lake and is probably much larger by now but I doubt if her curiosity has changed much.
This is from a photo that was almost completely beyond repair using traditional photo programs. I tried everything I could and finally decided to shelve the picture for over a year. Once I started painting I decided to try to make something of it again. It made a wonderful Mother's Day gift.
This is from a snapshot a friend took during the our wedding. No professional shot here. The original is a wonder photo but the background was bad and the shot was far too contrasty. Once again painting saved the picture and it's our favorite from the entire ceremony.
This was actually pretty good picture and all I had to do was make it look painterly. Keep in mind that fine detail is not reproduced in this slideshow. There are many small brush strokes in this picture that can only be seen on the original, but doesn't Elvis look great?
Portait of an English Retriever. The detail is in the fur. The original is on canvas and the owners were delighted with the results.
A lake in Muskoka one morning. Wouldn't you like to be in the canoe just slowly paddling along in the early morning light?
Near Griffith Ontario. The summer straw is ready to be gathered. The country is beatifully rolling and everything smells so fresh you just have to feel good.
A couple of swans I saw one day in Victoria Park.
This swan was all by himself in the park. Swans are amazingly gracefull and lots of fun to paint. It's hard to paint a picture with a swan that isn't beautiful.
Not your typical cat picture. I decided to capture this cat, based on my own tabby, in mid-swipe. He used to do that all the time to get my attention so I thought I'd comemorate him this way.
Sheepdog pups love running throught fall leaves. You didn't know that? Just ask one. This one's name is Teddy and I can tell you he definately loves the fall.
This is the same Old English Sheepdog for the other picture but much much yonger. Aren't puppies adorable?
This is a picture that always chokes me up a little.
